Lean Bean is an uprising coffee roastery based in Texas, US - founded on a commitment and passion for quality, not for profit. Its main goal is to produce exceptional coffee, selecting only the finest organic beans from around the world and roasting them in small batches for the ultimate flavor and enjoyment.

Lean Bean Mission & Our Challenges

Our main mission was not only to come up with a recognizable symbol, but also to craft memorable packaging. Prior to the rebrand, they used simple white labels with the text, which didn’t grab any attention from the locals. The main challenge was to make a consistent set of illustrations for each coffee region and pair it nicely with the new logo and typography, as well as the new upcoming website.

The Output & Impact

We ended up with a sleek and ‘lean’ symbol which is based on the coffee beans, leaves and a coffee cup. The symbol was paired with the sans-serif typography combo, which is also used throughout the packaging and web presence. For the packaging, we made a set of 4 illustrations (and upcoming) based on the landscapes of each region. And each of the bags has the main info placed in the bottom front, where it covers the most important stuff, while the back is reserved for the additional info and other elements like icons.

With the packaging upgrade on their shells and the launch of a new website (leanbean.coffee) the results are astonishing! Within 3 months, along with raising their prices, their retail & shop sales went up by +84%, web traffic and social activity bring 29% of the revenue now and they also started converting much more partnerships with the bars around them.
